249 Jong-no, Jong-no-gu, Seoul · Sarangchae (2F) / Anchae (3F–4F)

EMERGENCY · 119
This is a rough sketch, not drawn to scale. The room layout follows the April 2026 agongdesign floor plans; fire equipment locations follow the June 2026 fire-safety drawings by World Engineering (MF-003 to 005, revised). Electrical equipment follows the June 2026 electrical fire-safety drawings (EF-03 to 08, revised). Exit signs, detectors and visual alarms are not shown, as guests have nothing to operate on them. We recommend having the fire inspector check this map before it is posted.

  1. 1Leave your room for the living area. Closing the door behind you slows the fire down.
  2. 2Head for the entrance fire door. From ROOM 2 take the west door, go south, then turn east around the L-shaped wall. From ROOM 1 leave at the northwest corner and go straight north.
  3. 3Go through the fire door and close it behind you. That keeps smoke out of the stairwell. Then take the shared stairway to the ground floor — there is no elevator.
  4. 4Out through the private ground-floor door, then to the Jong-no main road. The sliding door opens with the button on the inside. If it does not open, lift the steel cover above the door, switch off the power and push the door open by hand.

There is no descending life line on the 2nd floor. If the stairway is full of smoke, go into a room, shut the door, block the gap around it, then wait at the window for rescue and tell 119 where you are (2nd floor, Sarangchae).

  1. 1If you are on the 4th floor, come down the internal stair to the 3rd. There is no route that skips the 3rd floor.
  2. 2Follow the central corridor north. In ROOM 2 and the living area you may walk over the platform.
  3. 3Open the fire door into the common lounge. Always close the fire door behind you. It holds back fire and smoke.
  4. 4Shared stairway to the ground floor → private door → Jong-no main road.

The common lounge sits outside the fire door and is shared by both units. Left luggage blocks the escape route, so it has to stay clear at all times. If the stairway is blocked, use the north descending life line or the south veranda descending life line. Both are at sliding windows that open.

  1. 1Take the internal stair down to the 3rd floor. The 4th floor has no door leading outside.
  2. 23F entrance → shared stairway → ground floor.
  3. 3If the internal stair is blocked, go to the south terrace. There are three descending life lines on the terrace. If you cannot use one, stay there, wait for rescue and tell 119 where you are.

The 4th floor has no door leading out to ground level. The internal stair and the three descending life lines are all there is, so please find them before you go to sleep. All of them are fitted to sliding windows that open — there is no glass to break. Never climb over the railing and jump.

  1. 1At the bottom of the stairs, the private entrance door is right in front of you. Do not go into the ground-floor business.
  2. 2The automatic sliding door opens with the button on the inside. In a power cut the power is off and the door does not lock, so grab the door panel and slide it open sideways.
  3. 3If the power is on but the door still won't open, switch off the power and push. Push the brown steel cover above the door up by hand, and inside you will see a black box labeled “Power switch” (전원스위치). Press the green switch toward O to turn it off, then slide the door panel sideways and it will open. Follow the photos below in order.
  4. 4Once outside the building, cross to the other side of the road and check that everyone is there.

Count everyone in your group. If someone is missing, never go back in — tell the fire service where they may be.

If the door won't open — how to switch off the power and open it by hand

  1. The brown steel cover mounted horizontally above the entrance door, below the exit sign

In case of fire

Do this

  • Shout to warn others and call 119. The address is 249 Jong-no, Jong-no-gu — give the floor and room name as well.
  • Press the manual alarm by the stairs. It sounds throughout the building — the fastest way to warn guests on the other floors.
  • Follow the green exit signs. They stay lit in a power cut and point to the stairs and doors.
  • Take a portable emergency light if it is dark. They sit in the wall and switch on as you pull them out.
  • Stay low as you move. Smoke rises, so the air near the floor is easier to breathe.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a wet towel. Use a bathroom towel.
  • Touch the door with the back of your hand before opening it. If it is hot, leave it shut and find another way.
  • Close doors behind you. It slows fire and smoke down a great deal.
  • Use the K-class extinguisher on cooking-oil fires. It sits beside the kitchen. Water or an ordinary extinguisher scatters the oil and spreads the fire.
  • If the stairs are blocked, go back into a room, block the gap under the door and signal from the window while you wait for rescue.

Never do this

  • Do not stop for luggage. A suitcase will trip you on the stairs and block the people behind you.
  • Do not run into smoke. Two or three breaths can leave you unconscious.
  • Do not go back in once you are out. Leave searching for people to the fire service.
  • Do not climb over the terrace railing. Waiting is safer than jumping.
  • Do not leave luggage by the stairs or the entrance. Escape routes must stay clear at all times.
